The speed on the extended network is much lower than what I get from the router directly.
Several factors affect throughput:
- Distance and obstacles: the further the repeater is from the router, the weaker the backhaul signal and the lower the throughput. Check the Wi-Fi LED — it should be solid blue. If it is red or borderline, move the repeater closer to the router.
- Bandwidth sharing: in Wireless Extender mode the repeater shares the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz radio between the link to the router and the link to your devices. This halves the theoretical throughput. Use Access Point mode (wired backhaul) if maximum speed is important.
- Band selection: connect the host backhaul to the 5 GHz band during setup (Step 3) for the fastest link to the router, unless walls or distance make 5 GHz unreliable.
- Interference: move the repeater away from microwaves, cordless phones and Bluetooth devices.
