My Wi-Fi is slow. How do I get the best Wi-Fi 7 speed (MLO)?
Wi-Fi 7 devices can use the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands at the same time, thanks to Multi-Link Operation (MLO). To get the best speed:
- Keep BandSteering enabled in Network > WiFi Settings. MLO requires the same Wi-Fi name on both bands.
- Check that Wireless Mode is set to IEEE 802.11be on both bands (default setting).
- On the 5 GHz band, keep Channel Width at 20/40/80/160M (default setting) for maximum throughput.
- Check that Transmitting Power is set to High.
- Use your device close to the router. The 5 GHz band is faster, but its range is shorter than the 2.4 GHz band.
Tips: MLO requires a Wi-Fi 7 (IEEE 802.11be) device. Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6 devices connect normally, without MLO. To find out whether a slowdown comes from Wi-Fi or from the mobile connection, run a Speed Test in System > Diagnostic and compare it with a speed test on your device.
